ThisReminds is a small, non-commercial personal project run from Ireland. This page explains what information the site keeps about you, why, and what you can do about it. Questions: [email protected].
What we keep
- Your account: username, email address, password (stored scrambled, nobody can read it), profile photo, bio and settings such as private account.
- What you post and do: posts, pictures, the songs you attach, comments, likes, reposts, saved posts, follows, close friends, reports you send and notifications.
- Basic activity: when you were last active, and the country your connection comes from. The country is worked out from your IP address using a database stored on our own server; the IP address itself is not saved.
Why
- To run the service you signed up for: showing your profile and posts, sending password-reset emails.
- To keep the site safe: handling reports, removing harmful content and banning accounts that break the terms.
- For overall statistics only the site admin sees (for example how many users there are per country).
We don't sell your data, show ads or use tracking/analytics services.
Who else is involved
- Render hosts the site and its database (servers in Frankfurt, Germany).
- Cloudflare handles the domain name and may pass visits through its network.
- Resend delivers password-reset emails, so it receives your email address when you ask for one.
- Spotify: songs play in Spotify's own player embedded in the page. When it loads, Spotify receives your IP address and may use cookies under Spotify's privacy policy. Song search is done by our server, without your personal data.
- Google Fonts: the site's fonts are loaded from Google, which receives your IP address when they load.
Some of these companies are based in the United States and may process data there under the safeguards the law requires.
Cookies and storage
We only use cookies needed for the site to work: one that keeps you logged in and one that protects forms. Your browser also remembers a few settings on your device (mute, recent searches, dismissed messages). No advertising or tracking cookies.
How long
We keep your data while you have an account. When you delete your account (Settings → Delete account) everything in it is deleted straight away; copies in our backups disappear within 7 days. Reports about content are kept as a record of moderation decisions.
Your rights
You can see and change most of your data in the app, and delete your account at any time. You can also ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to stop using it, by emailing [email protected]. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data you can complain to the Data Protection Commission.
Age
You must be 16 or older to use ThisReminds. If we learn that an account belongs to someone younger, we'll delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top and tell you in the app if the change is important.
